Racial Profiling
Abstract Two major factors seem to contribute to the perpetuation of racial injustice: no specific way to connect particular types of experiences with racism to mental health outcomes and limited avenues for legal redress for people who are psychologically harmed by racism. This investigation examined whether specific types or classes of racism predicted psychological harm. Online survey data were collected from Black, Latino, Asian, and Biracial Americans. The results indicated that: the incidence of racial discrimination and racial harassment was high for all racial groups and those who experienced racial harassment were twice as likely to report psychological harm than those who experienced racial discrimination. Implications for mental health practice, assessment and the legal redress are discussed.
